Interesting Facts About Famous Artists – Jean Millet
Millet was a French artist that was working around the early part of the 19th century. He was particularly known for his paintings of French rural life, concentrating on the peasant life he knew from his upbringing, capturing the labours of the agricultural worker in their natural surroundings. He also liked to reflect the time and season and how these intertwined with the life of the workers.
However, despite his paintings being a representation of life in the field, most of his pictures were produced in his studio, from memory and, sometimes life studies using models posed in the studio.
Millet was a French Realist, whose grasp of reality meant that he was all too aware of the discomfort of working in the great outdoors. I can however sympathise, as an artist that specialises in pet portraits, the comfort of a warm studio has it’s merits.
